1.  Complete a basic inventory of meat/protein on hand.   I take a notebook and write down what is in my upright freezer.   This week we have:

Hamburger (cooked) – 1#
Country Style Ribs – 1

2.  Based on the meat on hand I plan my meals for the 2 weeks.  When planning my meals I look at my calendar for the next two weeks and see how my work schedule will effect my meals.   Some nights will require very quick meals and some will need to be prepared in the morning or hubby will need to cook since I will be working late.

  1. There’s no way I could feed my family for the same price that you do. You must be smaller eaters than us. One pound of ground beef wouldn’t be enough for us – not even in a casserole. In fact, when I make pinto beans with chunks of ham, I need to use a 2lb bag of beans which only leaves a small container of leftovers!

I love reading how you shop and stretch your food. I think you’re WONDERFUL!!!! 🙂

  2. Thanks!  I think your wonderful as well!   Tommy and I are pretty small eaters, but hubby and BIL are very big eaters!  But on my menu the only item I will double is the Chili as I need some extra fro the baked Potato Bar and everyone loves Chili!   Now I am off to shop….hopefully I will be way under budget!
