Morning All….thanks for all your prayer for my MIL. We made it to the hospital yesterday around 12:00. I talked with my MIL and found out what had happened. She was home alone and slipped when taking the garbage to the kitchen in their apartment. She fell very hard and bent her leg backwards. This happened at about 7:00 in the evening and my FIL didn’t get home until 10:00 and found her. She was unable to move so couldn’t call for help. She was so scared. Poor thing.
She broke her Femur and had to have a plate put in to repair it. Initial we thought she would have her surgery in the morning. THey were backed up at the hospital and they said it would be between 3 and 5. At 5 I asked again and they said she wouldn’t go into surgery until after 7:30. The poor thing had to lay there with a broken leg for over 24 hours.
We stopped in the morning to get the details and then left and went to the library and out to eat lunch. Then back to the hospital from 2:45 until 5:00 thinking she would have surgery between those hours. We left again at 5:00 and came home and let the dog out and went to half price books. They had their Labor Day 20% off everything in the store sale. We had Josh come home and watch Tommy and we were back at the hospital around 7:30. Finally at about 8:30 she was wheeled down to surgery. We were able to talk to the Surgeon and find out the details of the surgery.
The surgeon called us at home at about 11:15 and he was done with the surgery and my MIL was in recovery for the next hour. She tolerated the surgery well, which was a blessing considering her age. She is in her early 80’s with poor health.
The plan today is to stop in and see her a couple of times through out the day. She will be in the hospital for about 2 to 4 days and then will be transported to a transitional care center for another two weeks. Depending on how she does she will either return home from there or go to a nursing home until she is able to walk, etc. We haven’t told her that yet, but hope to meet with the hospital social worker very soon. We do have to work with the hospital to get my MIL a medical alert system so if she ever falls when she is home alone she can alert someone for assistance. There are pull cords in her apartment, but it is in the bedroom and bathroom.
Lots going on this holiday weekend……..
Continued prayers for your MIL. I wanted to comment yesterday, but xanga wouldn’t let me. 😐
I am glad to hear that she is doing better. She is still in my prayers.
OUCH, poor lady. She must have fallen pretty hard to break her Femur (that is the strongest bone in your body, I think) I will be praying for her recovery. ~Michelle

Please check into getting your MIL a call button it is a devise that most local hospitals have for a small fee the patient wears it around there neck and it has a button on it when they fall they just push the button and the hospital then calls the patient if there is no answer and they then call family and a emergency squad it is awesome ask at your local hospital if they have a program like that it is a life saver. Praying for your MIL
