I always seem to neglect to answer questions….TerriBowden asked me if my grocery budget is really $50.00 a week.   Yes, it is……usually between $50 to $75 depending on what I need.   I think I can keep my food budget so low due to how I cook.   I will buy a turkey and make 10 meals out of it that I will store in the freezer.  I wait until there is a good sale and then buy that meat.     Right now there is a pretty good deal at Rainbow on Ham so I will buy that and make a couple of kinds of soup, etc.    I often cook on the weekend and then freeze the extra.   We eat soup at least once a week.

I do clip coupons, but rarely use them.  I shop at Aldi, which is cheaper.    I only shop sale items or things we don’t like at Aldi or then don’t carry at the larger grocery store.    I also get my bread at the bread thrift store.  I don’t buy mcuh processed food, unless I am working late and hubby needs to cook.

I make a menu to follow every week and only buy the food I need for that weeks menu.   I stock up when I can and try to eat the food we have in the house.   I don’t buy much snacks either.  I do buy pop, but I buy that out of my fun money and only a 24 pack every other week.   We shop Sam’s club too…

When I grocery shop each week, I first go to Aldi and get what i can and then I hit the sale items at usually two other stores.  That is it in a nutshell….never shop without a menu made and a grocery list in hand!!

  1. Does your groc budget include non food items like paper prods., cleaning prods. or personal prods.? I spend way too much at the groc store, but often I think it’s all the extra stuff I buy not the food.

  2. Thanks for sharing about your grocery shopping.  I guess ours might be a little higher because we homeschool & the girls, hubby & I all eat each meal here at home.  I do find that personal items, paper products, animal food, etc…. costs about as much as the groceries do!  That’s terrible!

    Hope Tommy feels better soon.

  3. Thanks for the tips!! I have a hard time not buying organic whenever I can, so that makes trouble for my budget. I have to figure out something though, since money isn’t exactly flying in the door. ~Happy
