Ok….since I am on the topic of being frugal.   Definitely I came by this easily, my parents are fairly frugal and I was a single mom as a teen ager and needed to be frugal out of necessity.   I sure wish I knew what I knew now, then….

This time of year while you are finishing up wrapping your presents, take an inventory of what you need for next year.  Such as wrapping paper, bows, labels, etc….I head to Target after the holiday is over and buy my supplies for next year at a great discount.   You might know this but when shopping at Target always walk around the outside of the aisle.  The end caps by the walls is where they put all the clearance items.  The best thing is if something is on clearance in like health and beauty and you have a coupon too!   When looking at the clearance stickers at Target you can see how much the item in discounted.  In the upper right square is a small number 30 or 70 or something like that.   This number is the percent of the discount.   I reguarly check the health and beauty, children’s clothes and bedding for discounted items.   The thing I am always aware of and have trouble with my hubby about is…..just because it is on clearance, don’t buy it unless you need it or have a purpose for it!   Money spent on a unneeded item is wasted money…

The last thing I think about in regards to Target this time of year is toys.  In Januray…usually around my birthday.  We go to Target and fill our gift bin for birthdays throughout the year.    The toys are usally discounted about 70% by then.   I actually bought Tommy’s Christmas Presents last year in January for this year.  I bought him the rescue hero mountain for 20.00.

My other favorite place to find dicount things for the holidays is Joanne Fabrics.   That have great items for my snow village and other decorative items.  I actually have my eye on a Santa I want to get after Christmas.   It is one of those like 2 foot Santa and is regular price is 70.00.   Very pretty and detailed….they are currently marked down to 60% off which would be about 28.00…that is more reasonable to me.   I am waiting until after Christmas to see if that goes down cheaper as they had a number of them in stock.

Ok…so there are a few more hints for you to save a few dollars…..do you have any tips to share.  This is the time of year when we all start talking about what we will do differently next year!

  1. Great ideas!  I love the after cmas sales and get all my cmas cards, wrapping stuff, and find a few gifts to tuck away for the next year. If I had more money I would buy more, because you can’t beat the prices!  🙂  Blessings!
