SURPRISE WEEKEND

Every year over Labor Day, we take our sons on a Surprise Weekend.  This year we went to The Depot in Minneapolis, the hotel complex has two hotels, a water park and skating rink.  It was a fabulous time!  We played all day, ate junk food and played the game Cranium Cadoo in the evening.   This is the first game we have actually gotten Erik to play through an entire game.

Josh and Erik at the Ice Skating Rink.

The The theme of the Water Park was trains, of course.  The area above was only about 3 inches to 6 inches deep.  It was the ideal area for Tommy to explore.  He LOVED it!!

There was an area for the big boys too.  The boys could climb on the net, play water basketball.  And every 10 minutes the train whistle would go off and a spout would shoot out a ton of water on them.  They would race to get right under it every time.

In the water park there was also a 185 -foot (three story) water slide.  The slide began indoors and then went out of the building and back in again.  The boys enjoyed that!

The water park also had a 25 person hot tub with a waterfall.  It was wonderful to stand under the waterfall and let the hot water hit your back………AAAAAHHHH………..*I enjoyed that!

The hotel was very luxurious.  The best surprise was about the weekend was the price of the place!  I had been quoted $159.00 a night on the phone when I made reservations.  This includes the waterpark fee, which if you are not staying at the hotel is $20.00 a person, so well worth it.  ARGH!!  But it is a once in a lifetime thing.  WHen we get to the hotel at check in they offered us a room with a pull out couch instead of two beds, and the room was only 94.00 a night.  WOW!!  That was great!!

The back hall way of the lobby was very quiet and LARGE.  We had Tommy walking there with his push toy thing.  He had a great time racing around.  He could go all over and not hit anything.  He loved it.  All the hotel guests enjoyed watching him.  He hammed it up of course too!

  1. Thanks for sharing the photos.  It looks like your family had a great time.  I think that family traditions are very important, and this must be a special one for all of you.
